Will a 79 engine fit in a 77 frame?

Hey, new to xs650s and building/working on bikes myself. Have a welding background and found a 77 frame cheap. Bought a 79 chopper and wanna hardtail the 77 frame myself and switch everything over, will the engine fit? As far as I know the 79 frame just has a tcbros hardtail kit on it with no other mods

Yup any 72-84 engine is plug and play into any 72-84 frame. wiring varies but 77-79 charging/ignition is identical.
