I have a nice drum brake front wheel assy I'd like to use but the chrome on the tubes is shot. Will the 34mm tubes from a later TX or XS fit those chrome drum brake lowers? If not, does anyone have a decent set for sale? Thx

Anyone have any experience with newer fork tubes on the old drum brake sliders?:shrug
maybe not interchangeable at all?:

looking to do the same thing. maybe we can grab manual for later xs 34mm to see if they have same setup for drum brake 1971 setup.

subscribed. I might find out this winter because I have the same issue and have both kinds, it's just not next on the list....

Just wondering if later model 34mm forks will fit the 1971 fork assembly. !971 has drum brakes and the forks work with the drums. Not sure if the inside assembly is cast differently so we might get stuck to use only 1971 fork tubes.

The part numbers for various years

70 tube 256-23124-60-00

71 tube 256-23124-60-00

72 tube 306-23124-60-00

74 tube 371-23124-62-00

75 tube 533-23124-31-00

Saving these for a special occasion. 71 NOS XS1 lowers.

thanks for the part numbers and those lowers are sweet. might cut my 10 overs down to stock then internal lathe some new threads. Still got one guy who might do a swap but now I know it's gotta be from 71 only.

Yeah, those early steel lowers are unique, different bushing setup from laters. Also gotta watch the top crown, with the recessed receiver for the tube uppers...

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I have a set of these with extended tubes if anyone is interested.
