Putting my bike back together and installed the clutch cable and side cover last night. I never messed with the clutch itself, but it won't seem to engage when I pull the lever. There is tension, I just don't know much about them, anything simple to look for first? Thank-you

To start with when you pull the lever the clutch disengages. It is engages when you release the lever.
When ever you have the left cover off you need to adjust the clutch and cable after you put it on.
With the cable adjuster very loose at the lever, you remove the round chromr cover off over the clutch adjuster on the left side cover. Loosen the lock nut. Turn the screw out a few turns. Turn it in and out a bit to get the fell of just the screw turning. Once you get the feel for it slowly turn the screw in until you just start to feel resistance. Now back the screw out 1/8 turn. Snug the lock nut down while holding the screw from turning.
Now back at the lever adjust the cable for about 1/8 to 1/4 inch freeplay.
