Hi

The XS1 and XS1B have different clocks, but I guess most people know that! Apart from the inner workings etc, the XS1 has a hard plastic outer ring on the clock tops, the XS1B has a sort or rubber ring over the clock outer (rubbish description i know)

What I'm interested to find out is were the XS1B clocks ever fitted to the XS1's as I restoring both and want to get them correct

Thanks

Ant

The change occurred in 1972. 1970-1971 have the plastic bezel, 1972-1973 have the rubber bezel. Three different parts manuals support this, as does my experience handling several 70-73 tachs and speedos.
No 1970 XS1 ever came with a rubber bezel.
EDIT: I just saw that you have several XS1 and XS1Bs. Maybe things were different in the U.K.

In my opinion, yes. However, many components went through mid-year changes in the very early years, and they weren't all documented. If you are aiming for strict historical accuracy, in this case, I would defer to the parts manuals, and I'd be looking for plastic bezels for your XS1Bs. But, it's also entirely possible that they shipped some late-year XS1Bs with rubber bezels.

Hi

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but on the early XS1 clocks, does the black plastic ring around the clock face unscrew?

If it does, mine must be really stuck, any advice please?

Thanks

Ant

No, I don't think the black plastic ring unscrews. I think it is permanently glued or formed to the cup.

Go to the above thread, and read post # 41. Then go to the very beginning of the thread, and read the whole thing.
