Yes. It's a technology that's been around for hundreds of years.
There's a shaft that runs through the camshaft from the flyweights to the points cam on the left side. It runs inside bushings inside the camshaft that require cleaning and lubricating periodically. If it operates OK now you can run it as is, but odds are it's been a while since it's seen any grease... if ever. I'd suggest reading up on it and how to take it all apart and lube it.
Ride it and enjoy it... but add that to the list of stuff you'll need to do to properly care for your bike.
