Early/Late clutch swap question

I need to replace the friction discs on my 71b. Doing a search here i've learned the early plates are no longer available, so I have to use the later plates. My question is, should I go with the later basket also? If so, will the later basket fit the early bike? Problems?

Okay thanks. I'll try to use the old basket with the newer style plates and see how it goes. Thanks for responding.

Something I forgot to mention in that thread. Doing the 'missing steel' trick offsets the plate positions such that the tabs ride on fresh surfaces of the basket fingers and hub splines.

Wacko setup, eh?
