My turn

Sprayed a large test panel black outdoors Tuesday afternoon just before the only rain in quite awhile showed up.lol.Started to do some color fades and misting idea testing for the smaller lower stripes and accents this evening.The cranberry-rose is an old favorite of mine from way back and will have a subtle presence throughout when completed.🎨😁

The gutted display motor nearly jumped off the stand and into the frame all by itself and not a scratch it was so much lighter.Dont recall it ever being that easy.Onto try and revive the original motor and treat it and me to some updates.$$.Remembering 40 plus years ago thinking of the era,the 75 motor and rear wheel would be out and in this frame.3” added in the radian swingarm all by Saturday.Then headed to a Sunday hill climb somewhere in the USA.The great memories while working on this 72.😁

Started on the lower stripes.Some cranberry color on and some fading.More detail color striping to go before sanding and clear.

That is certainly an interesting color combo. I could not picture it at first when you mentioned it, but seeing it has a striking effect. Very different, and I like it!
I agree it’s kinda iffy but should all tone in together as I do a little here and there accents when the frame fabs done.Thanks
 
Tank and seat pan completed.Quite pleased with the simplicity of the U-Pol clear.Original stuck motor split and dismantled.Progressing and enjoying.

Original 72 motor is apart and cleaned.Any advice on what I can look or check for in the empty,cleaned top and bottom cases that would be a definite red flag to go no further with this motor for the “my turn” project.TYIA.

The upper rear engine mount has been known to crack... got one of those here.
Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary far as I know. Just look for the normal stuff.... small cracks, stripped hole threads etc...

The original ‘72 crank has lead slugs pressed into the counter weights. On rare occasions they have been known to come loose , come out and can lock up the motor. Since the crank is out it would be worth a look.

So glad you brought up checking the threads closely Jim.None had broken off but they ALL are unquestionably needing chased and cleaned.Thanks.👍
I usually clean up threads with a thread chaser vs a tap. Sometimes the tap or die will be too aggressive and remove too much material. The thread chasers will reform the threads and push dirt out of the way. If the goings too tough for the chasers I will use a tap / die. Use lots of compressed air too.

Interesting.I see how this would present a problem.I parted many out or reworked to resale back in the day but to do a complete motor rebuild on my own,especially this stuck and ugly hasn’t happened until now.All great tips.Learning more at 64.😁👍
