My turn

Some final prep before painting. Most likely gonna scratch or mar it before completion.Just needing some pretty on it to keep me motivated while I go through the paces of getting the lower end in proper condition.🤷‍♂️

Building the hoops.Made a jig for the seat pan hoop.A lot of measuring, heat and reheats, and patience.Onto the more supportive rear hoop.Using saved pieces from old early frames I’d salvaged many years ago as needed.

An older tailpiece modified and tacked in.Nothing permanent until I get
it on the ground and rework shock mountings on frame and Radian swingarm for the optional use of the 16” rear wheel.

Bypassing the old tied together pipe cleaner method for layouts.Found these glorified 12” ones at D/G for $1.00.Chenelle no less. They work well.Using this spare original sidecover for layout purposes only.It unquestionably won’t be what I modify, cut and splice.

For the Radian swingarm adjustable shock mounts I used 1 1/4”square tube.Opened one side with small cut-off wheel.4”each with 3) 13/32 holes.Unsure of permanent placement until I set it on the ground.

May look like a bunch of hodgepodge welds and bends, seemingly so crude to get patterns and I do agree but in fact, there was a definite well thought out plan and it all fits well.Final correct welding and cosmetics ready to begin on this area of the frame modifications. I’m quite pleased with the strength factors after repositioning some old saved original frame tubes. The versatility of the 1/2”bolt on or off hoops for fiberglass seat pans shine. Its been on mind for many years!Bucket list, old knapkin notes. I could lie and tell more about the early patent search realities $$$$$$,but I won’t dwell. I do see a pattern of upswing desire to own an original early TX/XS650 Yamaha again.Save all those old chopped parts.Every 20 years or so the trend will return as the elder deceased mentors would say.Obviously this isn’t the most liked thread, however,I’m learning.🤝😁

Frame welding done for now until the original motor is done and set in.Unsure of battery box and electrical components mounting needs.Frame painted again.Surely not the last time before completion. It has been a priceless back saver having the gutted display motor to set in and out this many times. Its going back together loosely again.

Are you making mention because you are modifying a frame? Hogwash... as far as I am concerned. I see you sharing a project and processes many of us learn from. There are purist builders, resto mod builders, chopper, scrambler and cafe builders here. I enjoy every aspect of all of these build threads and thank you for sharing.

Shit.... I forgot trackers...

Fortunately I was able to negotiate a couple weekend marathons into the weee hours working on the frame with the Mrs before the constant winter cold. I don’t keep the shop heat on through the winter anymore. I have a little hideaway room I heat as needed now. I’ll be using it this winter to pursue the motor rebuild and a couple other XS/TX small parts projects as time allows.
