Did not make it home in one piece

Hospital bill? I have new improved insurance, but let us not go down that path. The V11 EV frame is a banana. It was not a big money bike. I just liked it.

I'm at my wife's office. My XS650SK is outside the door. I rode it to work in the dark this morning, stock headlight and all. (car trouble) Round trip is 105 miles. I took the scenic route home, so that made it 130 miles. My ankle bothers me, but I can kick start the bike. I have to, because the stock coil is a POS. The electric leg works when it's warmed up. My elbow and ankle are going to nag me for a while. Hey, I'm good with it. I could just as easily be dead.

....and my leg ain't broken. :poke: I hope that isn't bringing unbearable misery.

I'd do a "just now pic" but when i look at it it's somewhat disheartening so i won't post it....i'll pm you, your lucky you can ride, I am still a week or so off at a push. Would love to be able to go for a long ride (the only kind). I can start (electric) mine, but cannot hold the weight as yet, working towards it though, getting the stand down will be hard and stopping on uneven ground / roads will be the challenge. Will just have to pick the ground and be done with that.
Your right about easily being dead, your a lucky man Marty, did you buy the lotto tickets....???

*pic snipped*
My Guzzi is back in the garage. It needs a valve cover and a front end.

A good friend down here in CENTEX wrecked his Guzzi Hack Rig last year. It now sports a KTM 640Adventure front end that had been cluttering up my bathroom for abt 5yrs. Where there's a will, . . . . . !

Glad to read that you're OK. LUCKY!

Pull on the boots, get that engine between ya legs....Woooohooo, well I had a win today! Been walking a little and made my way to the XS, sat on it and thought, I wonder if I can hold the bike up when off the centre stand? Yep, now just have to get it back up..... do the foot on the stand, yank the bike up and presto, I can do it. Can I get my foot on the brake, yep, shit I can ride baby....so, on the road to recovery, I went for my first ride in four weeks. Did the bike on the stand thing a few times, had to modify the technique a bit but its working......here's a pic from where i rode to....bikes a tad dirty but I don't care, the wind can blow the dust off.....

Noice! Goodonya!
(Aside: If you get a chance, put a R100RT Airhead on the center/re stand. Grab the built-in handle, step down while lifting, and Voila! No Yanking!
BeyEmVay got it right!)

Man you speak like an Aussie....well kinda, lost me on the last one......BeyEmVay? Now that's a new one......

My biggest problem is weight bearing on a 4 week old fractured ankle, and that's the one which you "step down while lifting" on, so I have to "Yank", just for a while....

Goodonya mate....we don't do "noice" well not anymore

Sorry for another long silence but I just got back from a1000+ mile long weekend on two wheels. I debit card camped so unpacking is going to be a snap. Glad to hear you fellows are on the mend and I will get to answering email and PM's ASAP

I just had to share....I found this little fellow in the swap meet, had to pay 5$ but was happy to bring it home. With this I can play around with the mounting height.

But now 2M has put a bug in my ear .....I never thought about searching for something nice and new.....duh.

So just as soon as I'm unpacked and have finished a couple of honey-dos......me and Google are going to spend some quality time together.

Like I said....REALLY glad you fellows are on the mend. Take care, your friend in NC, USA Gordon Gray

Hey, Gordon. I think this centerstand and assist handle project is important and deserves a thread of its own. We could pull items from this thread to go in there, plus I've cooked-up some more drivel on this topic. Whutcha think?

Yes sir, I agree. The more research I do on the subject the more I'm finding out it's a universal problem.

OK. Leave this the gimpy thread,
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww Marty, you KNOW we still love ya man and will be keeping an eye on this thread to keep track of the walking wounded.

I have to admit......you probably know (cause you've met some of my other friends) I spent a couple of decades on another vintage motorcycle site and watched/helped it grow into what it is today.....BUT hands down this site is the BEST site I've spent time on when it comes to the tech stuff. GREAT search option with TONS of information out there. Can't find the answer, well there are plenty out there willing to help. With photos like 5twins, posters like Fred, Peanut, 2M etc there's probably not one problem that somebody hasn't run across before and they are more than willing to share the fix. It's the BEST I tell ya.

Best thing I've found with you XS folks is that............................we're really only talking about one model here and I don't "read" that mind set on here that " heck, I own a 1956 Model (fill in the blank) so my poo doesn't stink" .......the bobbers get the same respect that the stock fellers get....my B model is as well liked as a E model......I love it.

Okay enough of that........climbing off my soap box and still happy to hear you walking wounded are getting better.

Take care, your friend in NC, Gordon

This thread just reminded me of many years back when I hade a ruptured appendix and went in for emergency surgery. Yes I did survive!

Anyhow they put me on Demerol for the pain afterwards. Wife told me it was strange talking to me while on that stuff. She said I would be in the middle of a sentence and then just go out and several minutes later out of the blue finish the sentence like nothing had happened.

Hi Ken,
when you get to be as old a me you can talk like that without needing to take Demerol. Or so my wife says.
