    After sitting 20+ years I pulled the carbs off my 83 to clean them. The float valves were practically welded together with gunk. The float pins are junk, so I ordered a new set from Mike's. Cleaned everything else "except" removing and cleaning the fuel screw (the part you gotta drill the cap...

    After sanding it with 150 then 220, I finished with 000 steel wool and mothers.... what I was after was to make it match the rest of the aluminum on the rest of the bike, not a chrome shine. ... I'm very happy with the results! Thanks again Conrad! :thumbsup: Posted via Mobile

    Vin is a "j" though.... the j ended in 82....the rest of the code is 83.... I guess what im after is what differences are their between the j and k.... and is it a rare model? (83 xs650 j) Posted via Mobile

    my vin starts jya5v4 year "d" last six 103xxx it's a numbers matching bike with a date 9/82 on the neck id sticker, so it's a 82j right? but the year code "d" is 83 the engine number 103xxx is "83" (82 was 00xxxx) and it's titled as a 83.... j models ended in 82... k started in 83, "but"...

    thanks peanut! we bought the bike near Chicago, my dad didn't have his M license yet. so I got to put the first miles on this bike.... it took it a while to find it's way back to me! lol

    Yea, going to replace the tires before I ride it. I think their going up on the garage wall...lol. the carbs need gone threw, the right one was flooding 20 years ago. That's why he parked it..... Posted via Mobile

    the goal I have for the bike is "original restoration"... just going to clean up what's there and replace only what's missing (I think it's missing a grab bar on the back of the seat... and I think the tail light has been moved)... not bragging but, it even looks better then the pictures show...
