    L/Cylinder Won't Run at idle

Will the left cylinder fire at rpms above idle speed? Have you sync'd the carbs after reinstalling them? Could it be an ignition problem like a bad spark plug, plug wire or bad coil? Fuel line connected to the carb?

    Widest Rim W/ Stock XS

My'83 Heritage Special has a 130 on the back, mounted on a 16"x2.75" rim. This is the stock rim and tire size. It's a real close fit between the tire and the drum brake anchor rod, and also between the tire and the chain guard. I don't think you will get much more tire in the back without...

    Have you tried these?

NOS stands for New, Old Stock. Basically discontinued factory parts that were unsold, yet still new and usually in the original packaging.

Won't start, no spark, GM HEI ignition

Take the HEI module to autozone. They have the proper test equipment to test it, and they do it for free.

17/32 gear & new tires = huge improvement

I'm running a 30t in the rear and an 18t up front on my '83 Heritage Special with a 16" wheel in back. Really calms down the rpms on the highway, and no drama at all with the clutch at stop signs. I can even take off in second gear if I'm easy with the clutch lever. I like the 18/30 combo...

once bike is warm rpms wont come down

You mentioned new carb boots, go back and recheck the bolts and clamps on the metal covers over the boots. Also make sure that you have fresh vacuum caps on the hose barbs if they aren't being used. If they are being used, make sure the vacuum hoses are in good shape and not cracked or...

    New XS1B owner

U-turn, have you replaced the old clutch cable with a fresh one? You could have some corrosion inside the cable housing, causing the stiffness you are talking about. A fresh cable with some white lithium grease injected into it will make that clutch lever a lot more user-friendly. Billy

    130 80 18 on a '75 XS?

A 130 should fit without hitting anything. I have a 130-90-16 on the back of my'83 Heritage Special. Since 130 refers to the overall width of the tire, you should be fine. The chain isn't even that close to the tire on my bike. The drum brake anchor rod is a bit close though. Billy

    Bake Problem

Add more flour. Oh wait, you mean a BRAKE problem... sounds like when you pushed the piston back into the caliper, you may have gotten it a little sideways causing the piston to stick in it's bore. You might need to pull the caliper back off and see if it's moving when you squeeze the brake...

Rear springs for a skinny rider?

Ok, my first post here... New to the forum, but I've been riding my '83 Heritage Special for about 5 years now. I'm only about 125- 130 lbs, and I found my stock rear springs were too stiff on my my bike. I had the preload adjuster set as soft as they would allow, but everytime I hit even a...
