    Gotta love Fords

I was a Ford guy for years, until I bought a Tacoma. It now has 200k miles and is 13 years old. Repairs - one O2 sensor. Oh, and the little lite that tells you the cruise is on burnt out at 150k miles. I was a AAA rep and joke with one my Toy dealers that they just had to have better build...

    Dual sport advice.

Don't accept substitutes - XL or XR Hondas - air cooled = bulletproof!

    Suzuki GS questions.

I have an 81 GS850 - had it since new in '84 ( a leftover). It has been nothing but sweet to me; I still drag it out once in a while for old times sake. I think "bulletproof" doesn't quite cover it. I went on a trip with my 18 year old son - he rode the 850 and me on my Connie. The old 850...

    LOUD whirring noise

No way to verify without a full teardown? I'd hate to pull the motor and do all that and find it was something simple.

    LOUD whirring noise

I would think that a kickback would likely destroy the E-start rather than damage the crankshaft, but you've got me concerned. How can I verify?

    LOUD whirring noise

Recently installed a Pamco ignition - works great! Felt so secure, I thought I would take her for a fairly long ride - 50 miles. Only got a few miles and started hearing a loug whirring noise in the engine - related to rpm, not road speed. It seemed it was only getting louder, so headed for...

    Timing basics

Just installed new points. Per my multimeter, the points don't open until past the T mark - points set at abt. .014. Also, the reading is only 3 or 4 volts - is this correct?

Was the XS650 Yamaha's first production 4 stroke?

I remember watching Henry walk away from the ring dings at the LA Supercross until the last lap - stalled and absolutely wore himself out trying to start that thing - what a terrible way to lose...

    Timing basics

Sounds like a pregnant idea - it would make them easier to start, too. The case bolts have already been replaced. I love Allens - course, could be because that's my last name!

    Timing basics

Thanks for the help. With the meter, I could see that they were opening - a little late, but not that bad. Now if I can find some new screws to replace the boogered ones that hold the points in, I'll be fine! The previous owner (or maybe the one before him?) chewed up the slot real bad. I...

    Timing basics

I have a XS2 and have the RH cylinder at TDC (valves loose) If I move the rotor to the F position, no points appear to be opening - I have to move the rotor a great deal till the RH points start to open. The bike was running prior, and I can hardly believe that the timing could be this far...
