problem solved.
Thanks a bunch turned out the copper washer that was in there was too thin and too small ( I think it was a brake fitting washer) any way it got worn to where it slipped inside the spring.:doh:
Put 2 new thicker ones and instant quiet.

Finally figuring out my idle noise after adjusting valves 4 times
Went to recheck cam tension
Clicking on dry rotation matched the plunger moving beyond the threads
If I hold my finger against the plunger firmly the noise goes away on rotation.

The cam in my 77 case is reportedly from a 72.
would this change valve lash specs to match the cam
and what would they be for a 72?

XS1, XS2 TX650 :
Inlet valve 0.15mm / exhaust 0.30mm
Just to complicate matters .15mm converts to .006in. my intakes are at.003in
.30mm...
Trying not to hi-jack your post but you`ve got the closets problem as mine.
I`ve gappedthe intakes at .003 in. and exhaust at .006in.
My engine is rephased so the opposite cylinder is found by viewing valves and piston position.
Other situation is I`m using an earlier cam and head ( rocker...
I swear you must have snuck in my garage and video`d my engine.
Exact same noise .Hear on dry rotation.
Metalic ringing, tinging at idle.
I`ve checked valve lash 3 times.
