Unfortunately this intense weight training and aerobic exercise as a method of losing body fat is not a sensible approach at all. It has been proven beyond doubt that changing your diet is far more effective and probably more healthy too.

The tests that were carried out all appear to be of healthy young active adults who I suspect didn't have significant overweight issues to start with. There is insufficient evidence provided in the links to see what type of randomised control tests were carried out if at all.

the problem with intense and aerobic exercise is it uses a lot of energy which the body needs to supply and replace immediately . If you are not in ketosis then the muscles will burn glucose from carbohydrates and not fat stores.

In addition to that muscles need a whole lot more glucose so the more muscle you put on the greater the bodies requirements for glucose the more you need to eat ........

I don't think this is really aimed at the majority of overweight chronically ill 50 year olds to be frank ;) You could lose far more fat by cutting out bread potatoes cake biscuits and other carbs and just doing a 20 minute daily speed walk or cycle for exercise

Actually TT this site is not just unhelpful it is downright dangerous and misleading . It really has absolutely no place on this health and nutrition thread .

Everywhere you look they offer high energy drinks and snacks that are loaded with sugar and carbohydrates. They are even advocating people take Testosterone and probably steroids . ! here is a typical 'healthy snack ' recipe loaded with sugar

The article and the website are bullshit...bananna bread is loaded with carbs and sugars..just what we are trying to avoid..you really need to start from the beginning here..we dont need anymore dis-information...

terrible tabo 1 you do not lose muscle when you are eating a low carb high fat and protein diet.

The very last thing the body will burn to produce energy from glucose is protein ie muscle because its a lot easier and more efficient for the body to burn stored fat.
Protein would only get used if you were on a starvation diet or fasting.

On a high fat high protein diet you are getting ample nutritionally dense food which the body will use to produce energy and any deficit will get taken from first the fat stored around your organs which is the whole point of a ketogenic diet.

Please try and watch some of the videos on this thread which will explain what this thread is all about .It is important that only sound advice is posted otherwise this nonsense will just get perpetuated .
This video would be a good starting point to get an insight into what nutrition is all about.

This statement that you have made on this thread is completely wrong it is not only misinformation it is unsubstantiated and unhelpful .It is in direct contradiction to the facts that I am trying to put across here. !

If you do not understand how detrimental carbohydrates are to health then I'd strongly recommend that you do a little research yourself and find out the facts rather than guessing and posting this nonsense on this important thread.

it is estimated that more than half the Worlds population is now suffering with type 2 Diabetes ,, and other chronic conditions like Hypothyroidism, Parkinsons ,Athritis, Coronary heart disease, Athroschlerosis, Asthma, Fibromyalgia , and many other life threatening illnesses and its on the increase at a crisis level.

If you really believe that your statement 'Actually, carbs are not inherently bad.' has any validity,prove it with links to the scientific meta analysis or randomised control tests that support your statement otherwise I would ask you please to remove it as it is not helpful .

Millions of people around the World are dying every year of strokes , heart attacks and Diabetes. Hundreds every day are having their toes , feet and legs amputated due to Diabetes . The majority of this is all due to eating Carbohydrates.

Its clear that you have not bothered to read any of this thread or watch any of the videos but I challenge you to watch the Zoe Harcombe video or 'The Widow Maker' video .

The information and guidance in this thread is for you !........... and others ...that still have time to reverse the advance of chronic illness that will inevitably come if you do not change an unhealthy lifestyle and nutrition.

Its already too late to benefit me as I already have T2 Diabetes,Hypothyroidism, Stage 3 Hypertension, a massive brain tumour, Lipidemia, non alcholic fatty liver disease, low growth hormone ,low testosterone, pheriferal neuropathy ( I can't feel the front half of my feet ) and various other conditions .

Questions like ...what are we supposed to eat to be healthy. ? What is causing all our chronic disease and illness .?

My aim here is to try to sift through all the misinformation and collate and post all the current research and findings on this thread so that anyone interested can have the links at their fingertips. I know .. I get it...It is appreciated that you give folks the benefit of the doubt...It is clear when someone doesnt care to read the contents of the thread in order to converse in an intelligent manner. The key is moderation. Sorry for your health problems. My clients and coworkers do cut down their carb down intake to lose weight but it is usually in the short term. They are pretty healthy and the ones that practice moderation and follow the portion control in their diet are still able to lose weight without cutting out all carbohydrates.

I never wrote that carbs are healthy, I simply stated carbs are not inherently bad. There is a difference. It's very difficult to totally eliminate all carbohydrates from ones diet.

Your thyroid gland produces two hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).

Fiber

actually marty turnips are almost as high in carbs as potatoes , its easier to use above ground and below ground vegetables to be a guide. Vegetables above ground (ie leafy greens) contain the least calories and are therefore low carb .

Low carbohydrate flour: I mentioned this earlier but neglected to add any references. I see that coconut flour is commonly cited in "Low Carb" recipes and has the following nutritional analysis from the Connecticut Coconut Company:

Total Carbohydrate (Sugars,Starch and Fibre) 59%
(Net Carbohydrate 22%: See note below)

Note: Although the carbohydrate content is high at 59%, we are really only concerned with the percent that can be digested i.e. Net Carbohydrate. This value is somewhere in the order of 37% of the Total Carbohydrate based on ratios provided at:

These values indicate the net carbohydrate level in coconut flour is about half that of wheat flour. Therefore the use of coconut flour in a keto diet must still be carefully controlled. Typically the low carbohydrate bread recipes I have seen use a small amount of coconut flour and bulk it out by folding it into whipped egg whites to give a light fluffy bread like product.
I suggest you start anew. Don’t try to substitute what you’re already eating. Retrain your palate for healthy food. Once you change your diet, your gut will adjust, at least, that has been my experience.

I think there is alot of merit in Jetmecmarty's comment in Entry 126 above regarding retraining one's palate!
