Announcement expected July 8th, Harley will spin off a whole new line up of electric motorcycles and e-bikes. I think Harley is beginning to realize that it’s line of electric motorcycles will have to be less expensive in order to appeal to a broader audience. There is a lot of speculation going on about just what this new line up might look like.

HD needs to do something, maybe fire management and start from scratch.
The overpriced thing they have now that has a problem with catching fire isn't the way to go. It's no wonder they've split the thing off as it's own Brand, much like they did to Eric Buell before they off loaded him, that way if it fails it doesn't affect them as badly in the perceptions of the public.
If they want to pursue powered bicycles, small commuters and scooters I can see sales and money in that. An expensive cruiser and especially a touring bike with a 200 mile range between charges is a fail and non-starter

Yeah Harley has been desperate to try and figure out a way to expand its brand into a wider audience, remember when they bought the Italian sport bike manufacturer MV Agusta in 2008, for $109 million, then promptly sold it two years later?

They’ve got to find a way to bring in younger buyers, their traditional V-Twin buyers are aging out. I always felt like they missed an opportunity with their Porsche designed V-Rod motor. 122 hp water cooled , 4 valves per cylinder.

I rode that bike once and the motor was outstanding, but they stuffed it into the V-Rod, which I found to be an uncomfortable bike.

I remember coming back from the test ride and saying to the salesman what a great motor that was, if it was only in a different bike and he said everyone says the same thing.
And as you mentioned Eric Buell, he was such an innovative guy who could’ve helped give Harley the sport bike line up they wanted, but they shackled his creativeness and forced him to use their motors.
All I know is all the Japanese brands increased their sales last year, while Harley had a loss year.

I own a V-Rod so won't take your criticism to heart. I've made adjustments to make it a more comfortable ride.
I have also as you commented met so many riders of other brands who told me that if they had put that engine in a Sport Touring bike they would probably have bought one.
Now I see they've spent BIG money to push this new Revolution Max engined Pan America to get Aquaman to do commercials for it. UGLY!!!!!!

No offence taken, as provided the stock seat is terrible and the stock seating position is referred to as the Folded Taco.
Some bars with a bit more pullback, some aftermarket mid foot pegs for a change up, Had Russell Cycle rebuild the seat and move me an good inch or so further forward, a windshield and hand guards, bags, 5 gallon aftermarket tank and I've made a reasonably comfortable cruiser out of it that runs when I need it to rather than just make a lot of noise and then begrudgingly think about going fast.

they have a new ceo since last summer, a german i believe. his stated intent is to turn harley into an innovator, actually the leader in innovation were his words.

if you're given a textbook case of malaise there's nowhere to go but up. it was turned around once before like nothing ever before. in the public mind it went from criminal lowlife hold your nose if you see the emblem associations to the only bike a medical doctor would aspire to, in just a couple of years. pure genius, whatever happened
