Resurfacing your old brake Discs

I'v done discs with a sander flap disc and it did break the glaze and worked fine. I dont think the price is out of line for how they turn out. I have used his service on the ones that were pretty bad in general. I also like to support guys like that who have invested in the machinery to do a proper job. When you get them back you know they are true.

There used to be a west coast guy, Washington state? offered a disk regrind and drilling service for all brands on fleabay?

How'd that work for you? :sneaky:
worked good but forgot to hit the record button on my cell phone so no video!

Think next video I might try would be one on how to sharpen chain saw by putting chain on backwards an running it against a rock to hone it down! Could post that one to the arborist site, I'm sure I would get lots of likes for that hint!

I have used the guy in Washington maybe 14 years ago but haven't seen him on ebay and I thought he was in the Seattle area. I have also used Chris Schumann for head work, I agree he does good work. but I dont think he was the same guy that was in Seattle. I will have to check with Chris about discs. I really think they need to be ground and not turned on a lathe.

I will have to try the emery cloth method some time. Im all about saving money. Just might have to patent the idea and put those fools out of business.

The emery cloth method might deglaze the rotor surface but ideally a cross hatch pattern would be best for bedding in new pads.i have the same Flexhone tool as 5T and it works well to deglaze too. They last a long time as long as you keep the speed down on the drill.

Back in the 70's or 80's I tried to do several RD350 disks on a lathe. All we ever got was pretty bad chatter. Ruined a few before we gave up.

Agree... don't think a lathe is the way to go.

I use a DA sander, 180 grit, keep it flat and moving. The deepest grooves (shallow lines) are a good reference to judge if I've over sanded any spots. Looks uniform and true to me.

I think it cost me $26.00 from Idaho to Mi by Fed Express. You gotta check frt cost. It's surprising Fed Ex has been much cheaper than USPS or UPS. I went on line a while back and set up an account. You get a slight discount I believe from just walking into one of there locations.

Like one of the vendors suggests; a USPS medium size flat rate box is 14.50 through pirate ship.
Even a large flat rate is only $19
Never heard of this outfit before.
Is this a legit outfit? Can it be used for a one time shipment? Do I just take it to Post Office or UPS store.?

I have a part to maybe ship to LA from Central NY and looks like it would save close to $9.00 compared to normal USPS rates.

It's very legit, Trav suggested it years ago when I was whining about shipping costs, been using it ever since, saved me hundreds of dollars in shipping.
Yes print the label on plain paper, tape it on, drop off at the post office. We get mail pick up too, if I leave a note in the mailbox, carrier comes up the drive gets larger boxes from the house. I take UPS boxes to a local shipping store, they take them no questions asked. If you see a UPS truck stopped somewhere, they will take your outgoing box too.

Pretty sure they go out bound to Canada not sure about shipping from there but it's free to sign up and try.
