Stripped exhaust mount/footpeg mount stud

Since I cannot locate a stud, perhaps if it comes out with a vise grip, I can replace it with a bolt.

Oh, that is bad news. Could I drill it out and tap it?

or..... drill it and run a bolt and nut on the inside. maybe? That seems easiest.
edit: not nessesarily easy. But I mean the easist option. Run a bolt the same OD as the middle of the stud.

Can you chase the threads back to usable with a die or take them down one size?
Use your exhaust hanger as the flat washer that goes next to the foot peg and don't use the lock washer. You may have enough threads left for the nut to thread onto. Not much side load on nut. Load is on large smooth part.

Take it down as in chase new threads? .... what is the opposite of a tap? a die? That might be a good option too.
edit... not chase. The threads are very chewed up, so I'd have to go smaller as opposed to just chasing them. I need the lenth because otherwise, my slip on is too close to the shock.

I wonder if I can, it was positioned just right with my slip on away from the shock. I hope so.

Looks like it will work. Slip on is still away enough. I will dremel down the damaged threads a little to start a new nut. I carved the inside and outside of the gromet off to give me that much more room. Shall I use blue locktight on it, since I will not be going real tight? And there are no washers, so I will have to keep an eye on it. I can't use red because my pipes have to come off every time I change oil.
Blue would work, or use a Nyloc nut. If you’re going down a size you have to get a new nut anyway.
Can you relocate the exhaust mount to a different location? That foot mount peg thread looks barely but still usable as a foot mount.

Maybe on the frame just above the footpeg bolt. Might not need to alter the exhaust at all, just add in a bracket perhaps.
That is a very cool exhaust!
I would suggest you consider bending that mount tang 90 deg in and using a kind of pinch strap such as a handlebar windshield mount to secure with behind and inside the frame rail ?

Just looked for a better answer and see the top mount of the rear brake master cylinder as a possible location to hang a strap from ?

Thanks! He fabbed it from aircraft exhaust. I'll take a look at your two options tomorrow. Very happy that this might work out just fine. This forum is awesome!
