Trying to buy stock exhaust because the previous owner cut off the muffler and it's just way too loud for me. What year header/exhaust will fit my 1978 Special?

My '78 came with the muffler cut off so it's just have the headers. Can I ride in CA without a muffler or do I have to put one on?

What other XS650 year and model front fender will fit my 1978 Special? I thought all 77-84 is the same but I think it is wrong.

I bought a really nice front fender on ebay for my 1978 Special but when I got them, it didn't fit. To clarify, if I bolted the 2 holes on opposite sides, the other two holes will not match up without touching the tire. Did I get the wrong fender or do I have to bend the fenders a little bit...

How do I tell if my sprockets are 520 or 530? And how do I know when it's time to get new ones? I counted 18T/34T (not the standard 17T/34T), what chain should I buy? The clutch shaft is missing so I can't tell if it's going to hit it.

I have 78' mag wheels and need new tires. The wheels doesn't say tubeless anywhere. Do I have to use an inner tube? I'd rather not.

My 78' will start without the regulator plugged but as soon as I plug it in, the main fuse pops. I was told that a bad regulator alone should not be blowing my main fuse. True? Should I be looking at the rotor now?

This is a picture of my front master cylinder. Does it look right to you guys? You'll notice that I can completely turn/spin the plastic reservoir separate from the metal bottom portion. Is it time to get a new MC?

The regulator keeps blowing my main fuse. Is there a way to fix the regulator? I found exact replacements on ebay for $25 so maybe that's a better route. Can I replace it with the single unit regulator/rectifier that are on the 1980s? Is it worth the trouble of re-wiring? Thanks.

How much travel does your brake pedal have from start to stop? Mine is about 3", not sure if I need to bleed them some more.

I plan on doing a brat style on my 78' Special. With me being 6' ft. tall and 190 lbs. will I bottom out the shocks if I put Honda Rebel 10.5" shocks on my bike? Will it be too low? Maybe 11" shocks? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, John

Can't seem to find used honda rebel or suzuki savage 10.5" shocks readily available. Are they any other suggestions for 10.5" or 11" shocks?

Need rear shocks for 78' special. I'm not too sure but I think they are all the same. Preferably no rust. Please send pics and price. Thx, John
