Bike is coming along. One word of advice would be to upgrade your stem bearings to the tapered rollers, and lose the original ball bearings.

Are you looking at the original timing marks on the crankshaft? That's where you check the timing. Just like from the factory. You just adjust the timing with the Boyer plate at the camshaft. There wouldn't be any painted marks there.

If you think it is a problem, just add another wire from the frame to the engine in a nice clean spot. You can't have too much ground. If you've got a lot of paint on the engine or frame, you might have a bad connection.

If it ain't leaking or making noise, why are you creating problems? I swear you guys sometimes think these things are space shuttles. Oh, never mind.

Technically the Maxstar is a power supply.Yeah, i'd go with the diversion 180. You want a machine that can weld AC and DC. The machine you showed is only DC. To weld aluminum, you'll want AC.

On my 79, I only raised the needle one notch, stock main jet and stock pilot. Pods and 1-3/4 pipes with small baffles. Plugs look great, runs sweet.

Yeah, it cruises along nicely, and without the vibes of the XS it's a fun scoot. The cop I believe is a bike earlier than mine. I think it was a 400. I f I was to even think about changing the tank, I would have to change the backbone, as it has a triple backbone. I don't know what the 400 had...

Sorry for the loss of your friend. My feelings are mixed on the use of helmets. They are quite obviously safer, and I urge everyone to wear one, but I still don't think anyone should be forced to. Sorry again.

Ok, a little Ipad issue. Here's a couple of my bike, and a couple of a GS400 that a guy on TCU built. I have mine all apart now. Not putting a sporty tank on mine, I love my gas tank. It's the centerpiece of the bike.

Hey Jimmy, I have an 80 GS450. It's a great little bike and very peppy engine. Much smoother than the XS, as it's counterbalanced, and yes the 6 speed is great. Mine is an E model, more like. My first bike was an 80 GS450S.
