Clutch pressure plate has two positions

I was having some issues with my clutch sticking. I took everything apart and cleaned the plates and replaced the thrust bearing and springs. Things were working ok when it was dry. However, whenever I'd pop the bike into gear and rock, and then try to disengage, the clutch would stick again...

Wanted - BS38 Slide (jet) needle preload spring

So I took apart the slide needle and out dropped the spring, never to be found again. :banghead: I ordered a set from Mikes, but it only fit the BS34. I need one Mikuni BS38 (1970-79) slide (jet) needle spring. If anybody has a spare junk BS38 lying around and can send the spring my way...

    Clutch won't disengage....sort of

Hey guys, I know people have posted in the past on clutches that won't disengage (stuck plates, cracked worm gear, etc). I have a similar problem and have done all but take the right side cover off to examine the clutch. I wanted to see if anybody had any ideas based on what I have so...

Rejetting and lowering the jet needle

I fired up my project (1979 XS650 SF) the other day using a temporary fuel tank (ie, gatorade bottle) and I could see the fuel just pouring in. I burned 1/4 of the bottle in probably 8 minutes of idling. I installed POD filters and basically straight pipes with minimal baffles. I took the...

    Cylinder firing too hot

Took the bike out into the driveway to fire up today. It started up with no problem. After running it for a while, I noticed I would get a flame from the left cylinder often and the left head pipe was getting extremely hot. The pipe was actually turning orange!:yikes: The engine is a 79...

Speedo drive won't hook accept speedo cable

I'm working on a chopper project. I believe my front end is actually from a 79 XS750. The rest of the bike (including the speedo cable) is pure XS650. I'm having an issue hooking the speedo cable to the speedo drive. The connector on the drive that came with the front end isn't threaded...

    Aftermarket mufflers too big...

I have a set of 2-into-1 aftermarkets pipes from mikesxs. I removed the 2-into-1 piece and now have a 2-into-2 on the right side of the bike. I bought some simple aftermarket slash cut mufflers to bolt on, except they're a little off size. The OD of the pipes is 1-1/2" and the ID on the...

    Side cover bolt order

Stupid question..... I took the engine side covers off and the bolts all different lengths and I lost my diagram for putting them back on. Anybody have an exploded diagram of each side cover? Trial and error will probably take me too long. I have a 79 XS. Thanks in advance!

    Extended speedo cable

Hey guys, I'm finishing up a chopper project with an extended front end. I used 750 tubes made by Franks. I think they're 13" overstock, so they're pretty lengthy. No stock speedo cables will work. Any suggestions on where to get one or make one? Thanks!

    Modified air intake manifold

I'm not sure if anybody has tried this, but I'm interested in making an air intake manifold that uses a single air filter located off to the side of the bike. My idea was using some sort of pipe (copper was my initial thought because its lightweight and easy to work with, but I found out it...
