Went to replace my needles and needle jets. The old ones were pretty snug, a light tap and push and out they came. The new ones however, one of them fits soft snug the other is so loose it falls out unless held in by the main jet and washer. Is this gonna be a problem?
I'd be interested in what others think of the bolt fixing design for the rear brake torque arm fixing to the brake hub.
I read on the forum recently of one member who came off their XS650 due to the torque arm fixing nut vibrating off the bolt and the brake torque arm coming loose.!:yikes:

I am about to begin work on an 83 XS650 that has been sitting in a garage since the early 90's. I bought the bike used in high school only to find the carburetors were destroyed. I messed around with it for a while and then moved on.
I recently came across a CB550 where I live in in NYC and...

I purchased a non-running xs650 last year for $500 when I realized the PO broke the electric starter. A few kicks and some starter fluid and it kicked to life right away, and I thought I was in good shape. I bought it just before winter, and took it out for a few cold rides to find that it...
So, after 50+ miles on my rebuilt motor, (I did rebuild, first time)I noticed a small puddle of oil near the right spark plug to the right of plug. I pulled off the housing cover, dry in there.
So I removed the tank, took off the upper motor mount, and loosened up all eight of the big acorns...
Last Sunday I was preparing a set of BS34's for cleaning, disassembling them, removing the jets, etc., when I stripped the air pilot jet. Not too hard to get to, but I wasn't in the mood to mess around anymore with them that night. Next day, when I was in a more refreshed state of mind, I was...
Need help diagnosing a stumble at high speed or maybe high rpm. It chugs and bogs at ~4500rpms, stalled on me a few times as well. Seems to die when down shifting and loading the engine but the stumble or miss, I can't tell the difference unfortunately, happens when I really lay on the throttle...
I was wiring this up before I left for work.....didnt get a chance to take any pictures but it does seem to work well.
Its sealed, waterproof, vibration proof.....plenty bright.....tested dead accurate against my digital meter.
Seemed like cheap insurance, I can check occasionally to make...
I just swapped over to Shorty mufflers and Uni filters, I'm trying to see what jet sizes are working for people. I'm not really looking to buy alot of jets just to keep swapping them out and trying others. So if someone's running the same setup I'm curious what jets worked. Thanks
Hey guys, I've got a problem with my caliper sleeves sticking in the rubber boots.
I've cleaned the boots and polished the sleeves and they still stick when I install them in the calipers.I've tried using lithium grease and tried using some synthetic grease. They work good until they sit for a...
Hey guys, I know there is a wiring diagram out there, but this may be different, and I haven't seen one or may have missed it. If anyone can help me or has been in this situation that would be great.
My bike is a 1976
I took the old system out and put the hugh pma system in so for visual...
While I was cutting out the rigged fuse holders to install the new correct fuse box, my gauge lights came on when the wires touched the frame. However, once the fuse box was installed I still don't have electrics. I guess I'll have to trace the wiring out.
hey guys, i just had a quick question...im in the process of working on my chain tensioner and wanted to ask before i go any further. How tight should i tighten the chain tensioner nut? should i tighten the nut until it barley spins or give it a little movement?
my exhaust for my right cylinder smokes on startup for about 10 minutes, left side is clean. i have a slight oil leak from my head gasket. is this the cause or is this a totally different problem?
Hey guys I took the lock mechanism out of my xs650 stock tank to try and remove the tumbler so any key would work. (got it off ebay didnt come with a key) Now the darn thing wont lock down. I thought I put it back just as it came off but maybe not. All there is, is the lock itself, the slide...
Hey everybody! I have been reading around and it seems like no one ever answers any questions about interchanging master cylinders. I have an xs2 which uses a 16mm bore. The question I have and probably lots of others is can you only use a 16mm bore or can you use 13mm? From what I have...
