Okay, one more question here. 73 650 I purchased new petcocks as the old ones were just that, old. cracked, leaking etc.... My question, the old ones had a spacer between tank and petcock. Are they really needed?

I have an aftermarket petcock and tank, so it's not like the original. It has a 3/8" thread slightly tapered, so it tightens as you screw it in. My question is, do I have to add anything to seal it off? Or will the thread seal itself? Me and Dave were discussing this last night. I'm thinking...

This is my first post so I hope this is correct. Can vacuum petcock be converted to non vacuum? I have a 79 XS650f and am rebuilding the petcocks. Is there a way to eliminate the vacuum and have them work without vacuum? What is required if possible? Thanks
