18/30 Gearing Otherwise Stock

Can this be done? XSJohn talked alot about 18/30 and reduced compression, retarded timing, etc, but can you do the gearing change only and get away with it? Or will it stress the bottom end at lower RPMs?

Just wanting a better/more comfortable 55mph cruising speed.

I run 18/30, with no other changes and it works well.
