78 MODEL side STAND

put on a set of 10in rebel shocks but found its stance was to upright,enough that a breeze would have blown it over.bent the kick stand and now it has a good stance but the side stand doesnt want to go under the frame and definitly doesnt want to stay against the frame.have ground off part of the foot but still no go.anyone else had the same problem? any soultions before i get into a cycle of bending and rebending etc (the rest of the frame etc is unmolested

Cut the foot off below the tang and weld on a piece of plate. I've used 1/8".
