78 steering lock

i have the steering lock that sticks out the side of the head tube and would like to cut it off. i don't have a key for it and i want to mount my headlight closer to the frame but it's in the way.

if i cut it off flush with the frame what's behind it? will i have a huge hole left? anyone else do this?

i shaved all that stuff smooth on one of my bikes no holes

what's behind it? there has to be something back there.. no filling or welding?

Just did it on my 76 frame a couple months ago. There is a hole that you'll have to fill. I just used the welder and went slow to avoid any heat damage. No biggy
