Hey guys!
I've been thinking. I have an 81 xs650 special, with points. The bike has dual coils, and mounts for both these coils, which probably means they were there originally. I don't know much history on the bike itself. it could be that the po switched to points due to a faulty tci-system, but then why is there original-mounts for two coils? Is this common? Shouldn't the later bikes be tci-ignited?

your thoughts on this are welcome!

Not much of a problem really, just confused me. Here's is a pic of the bike.

well, if it was just the engine I would have figured that it was swapped. But since the frame is "ready" for points, I started to think about it. Don't have the engines nr, but it has the oil-sight glass. The frames vin starts with 3L1. It's sold in sweden if that makes any difference. hrm...

Heck, I just realised, when checking the vin numbers that it's a 78-79
XS-SF (EUR) 78-79 3L1

but its registered as a 81. And why the oil-sight glass? Wasn't that part of the newer bikes? Sorry for the confusion.

The TCI was not offered in Europe. Points for all models and years.

The main purpose of the TCI was to meet EPA requirements in the US, along with the lean BS34 carbs, which were better made than the BS38's in order to provide a more dependable mixture ratio.

The oil site glass side cover is an easy swap. I put one on my '78.
