a ride in the snow

I think that XT600 has the same motor as my SRX600? :bike:

I'm so sorry these old pics got lost. Don't know the story, but I'm assuming the site went down and the host wasn't able to restore everything. Every website owner's worst nightmare. In the two decades we've been in business, we've had three web hosts (one of them twice). At one point one of our hosts fried a 30T hard drive and we were down for 2 weeks biting our nails but thankfully they were able to restore everything. Maybe lost a few hours of sales records. And once they were back up and everything restored, we changed hosts. Not their finest moment.

What a timely post! I've recently been working on importing hot-linked images so they don't keep slowly disappearing from the site. I use a Xenforo add-on, but it's still a tedious process, and sometimes I try to use archive.org to find old lost images if I think they're important enough. I tried archive.org for this thread without success, even when using the old URL of this thread from when the site ran on vBulletin software.

Since the inception of this site, I've always encouraged people to upload their photos directly so they don't break, but people used to really like to use off-site hosting like Photobucket, Imgur, ImageShack, Flickr, etc. Fewer and fewer people hot-link images anymore, but it's still an issue for older content.

We haven't lost any pictures (that I know about) due to xs650.com server issues. I've always had local and offsite backups for this site to prevent that issue. Even if my host's data center burns to the ground, we should only lose a couple of days of content. Most of these hot-linked images are not lost due to server issues with the hosts, but rather the users deleting the photos from their hosting account or closing them altogether after many of those companies started charging too much.

Now THAT wouldn't have occurred to me. But then again due to the nature of our business (Authors, intellectual property rights) I've never saved anything to sites we don't directly own. Way too much sensitive materials archived on our home server. I just buy increasingly larger hard drives. (Old enough to remember how floored some of my computer geeky friends were when the first 1 gig hard drive came out, swearing "We'll never need that much storage!"

Bottom of page 2, I posted a link back to a 650Rider thread of Gordon's sidecar build. Last page, #7), are a couple of pics of the XS hack in trying conditions😎. I have a couple more on my laptop with a full write up of the front end build, converterd to JPEG of it with acompaning pics throughout.

Have a couple of bookmarks back to 650rider with more snow shots. All the stuff is on the laptop

Excellent! You've officially been recruited to help track down all broken images. I'll be in touch. :D
