As I have mentioned in my build thread I have abandoned my xs400 cafe project for now due to cracked engine case. There fore I am trying to use as many of my parts I have collected for my 650 brat. I am ashamed to say what I paid for theses RAASK rearsetscand how long it took to get them into the country.

Since I am limited on tools and don't want to pay a machine shop I am fabricating brackets out of 3/16 steel.

Below are pictures of the mock up for shifter side. Please give me some feedback and any ideas on improvement. Obviously I have not cut them into final shape yet. The brass spacer is a plumbing pipe nipple I cut the threads off. Clearances all look ok, but I am worried about strength.

Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Hi, 3/16" should be OK as long as you dont put too much weight on them. Aesthetically, I'm not to sure though. This is how I attached my rearsets on the current Cafe Racer build. Granted, I did the bosses on a lathe but if you got a hold of some 1" bar, a hacksaw, file, drill and a 10mm tap and took yout time, you'd be able to do it:

Thanks Paul, you do beautiful work! Wish I had your skill. I had thought of doubling up the plates for strength, possibly another 1/8 inch. I know cosmetically they won't be pretty but on a tight budget right now. Eventually plan on ordering some sets designed for the 650.

Well Paul, a little embarrased to post pics of mine given how yours look, but here we go. May not be the prettiest but cost me $20 in supplies, and they work great!

Didn't get to the brake side yet, spent all day polishing side cover! The exhaust is just mocked up to check clearance, I am planning on running Gordon Scott high pipes but gotta save up.

What do ya think?
