Best Bang For Your Buck- P.M.A./Ignition System

I went with a HHB PMA and a PAMCO ignition and I am very happy with it. I would have kept my stock charging system but the rotor took a crap and I didn't want to mess with it. Looking at it now, I could have probably taken it to a local place the re-winds these things and got away with a much cheaper bike. The one thing that I really like about the PMA and PAMCO is the simplicity of the system, just a couple of wires and it makes a bobber look soooo much cleaner.

I kept the points, grafted in two 1989 Dodge Ram coils & ballast resistors with 1 Kohm caps & Iridium plugs. She starts with half a kick, every time.
Yes, I am cheap.

i just took off my stock set up going with hughs.....only times ive ever had to put my bike in the back of a truck was caused by the charging system.. 3 times and one weird hour at some guys house charging my batt. enough to get home.. 320 to hugh worth every penny. never had a prob. with any of my banshees(same style)

This post reminds of when I bought my Jeep CJ about 13 years ago. It had a carburetor with about 20 vacuum lines related to various smog components, solenoids, etc. Some guys would swear by the old system and had it dialed in.

I put fuel injection on mine and drove it for over 100K miles without issues, better mileage, cleaner install, constant power at any angle, and passed smog every two years. The EFI wasn't cheap, but it changed the old Jeep to an absolute daily driver. I think the fuel savings alone paid for the parts many times over.

I'm planning to go to the PMA/Pamco set-up and eliminate the full size battery (kick only). It seems to increase reliability, power, simplicity, etc.

I think either can work well, but obviously there are advantages to either approach. I'm just stoked that there are options out there for these bikes.

Don't keep us in suspense.

Do some searches. 650 Garage. A list of Stators was posted , (Not sure if it was on here), and this was discussed in the 650 Rider days. Use the top left search.

All these stators have heavy windings and have been around for years. The kit ones you get today have thin windings and little protection around them, Just compare from the photos from the old ones and the ones you get today.

I went with the PMA/sparkx/pamco because I was building a cafe style and wanted to elimanate the unsightly battery box for a little cleaner look. No regrets.
jefft

As previously stated by 650 skull, a simple search would yield the results you desire. The pma is nothing new... hugh brought to the retail market as a kit, but long before then, it was being done. My last pma costed $75, and even with a battery that barely held a charge, points, and a blown head gasket, that bike never left me stranded.

Im into my current pma $180 because I used all new parts. Savy shopper... doesn't mean being spoon fed information, dont be lazy, you wanna save money, its gonna cost you time.
