Bike idles but stutters when you accelerate.

I have a 1980 650g special. Bike ran fine at first but would not charge. We replaced the stator and regulator. Everything else checked out good and it started charging. As we put the bike together the coil pick up got clamped in the case. We fixed the wires and the ohms checked out good. Tried the bike and it will idle but stutters when you accelerate. Someone told me it was the carbs. We cleaned and replaced the jets. Did not improve. We borrowed a gonzo box from Jim and the bike wont start on the gonzo. I am not sure what else I can test. This is my son's first bike.

After the no go on the gonzo (I'm a poet. ), did you reconnect the TCI box and see if it still starts and idles?

Then it should also idle with the gonzo. There's two wires in the pigtail that I put black dots on. Swap those two pins and try again.

Thanks Pappy, it sounds like that problem. We tore apart the carbs, cleaned them and changed jets. I can do it again.

Why did you change jets? Where did you get the new jets from? What size jets did you install?

It was running rich and backfiring at idle. We got bought the tuning jet set from mikes.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a gonzo?

It's a Suzuki GN250 ignition box. The guy who figured out that it will work on our bikes... @Team Junk , named the conversion Gonzo in honor of Hunter Thompson.

First thing to check is if there is voltage on the the pickup wires at the the Gonzo Box when you crank it.
