For "XS" wiring diagrams go up to the top of the page to the tech tab. Go down to electrical "some wiring diagrams" and scroll down to post 7. There you will find a diagram for your 76. First Thing you need to check spark is a fresh fully charged battery. Turn your key on and check for 12V at the coils ( red/white wires I believe), clean your points up and see what you get.

Got spark just dirty ignition would a missing regulator cause the battery not to charge?
