Broken fuel cap

My neighbours XS2 has a broken fuel cap hinge. One of the "legs" is broken. It looks like this is an aluminium part where as the tank is made of steel? I can't see how to seperate these parts. Has anyone seen this before and succeeded to fix it?

There is a tiny retainer clip on the other side of the hinge pin, in your picture. You can pry out the clip with a sharp/thin pick. Careful to not lose the tiny clip.

Repair? Must be creative...

Aluminum solder? Not a rare event, the owner starts slamming the cap to lock it when the rubber seal gets age hardened.
