I just did the dumbest thing and had unplugged the spark plug boot from the spark plug (spark plug still in engine) to get to my idle mixture screw easier and forgot to reconnect it while trying to start the engine. Now I'm not getting a consistent spark and my bike won't start. Did I just fry my coil since the plug wasn't properly grounded when I was running the starter?

New coil was installed 3 months ago along with hall effect ignition.

Maybe, check the primary and secondary ohms. What coil are you using? Some coils die quickly under those conditions, some withstand it better.

I have not checked the primary and secondary ohms yet, but it's the dual output coil (I think it's Part #17-6822) that came with the Pamco ignition kit (Part #14-0902) with advance unit found on mikesxs. I have an 81 with pamco ignition and pma installed.
