changing regulator

Ok I figured out that I have a bad voltage regulator. ( with the help of kind people on this site) Now, what's the best way to reach it to change it? I can't get to it with out removing a few parts. I just want to get it done with out taking apart more that I need to.

Ok What year is your bike?
The 70-79 bikes the regulator was mounted on the side of the battery box, rectifier underneath.
The 80 up bikes the combo reg/rec was mounted to the frame down tube behind the engine.
To remove the early regulator you pulled of a frame side cover for access. On the later you just unbolted it from the frame.

I figured it out. I started removing parts in what seemed like a logical order. took out the little storage bjn below the air box, took out both halves of the air box and I was able to get the regulator out and back in. I now have a working charging system. Thanks to all the folks on here for the help.
