cleaning forks.

I like that idea but am going to have to think of something else. There is nothing for a pipewrench to grab onto. It's the kind that you put an allen wrench in. its very frustating so far.

Is it stripped, or just stubborn? Take a 17MM bolt, jam it into a socket and weld it together. Then you have a 17MM Allen Tool :) Hit it with an impact and that should get it out...

IF you get it loose, stop. Lube the threads, retighten, work it out slowly. turn till it binds lube retighten a ways then out again. It is worth it to not FUG the threads inside the tubes. I might go looking for a shop with a 17mm allen socket or buy a set of metric allen sockets they aren't that expensive. that and an air wrench will do it. It's nice to put it in the triple to hold the tube while you work.

Dont clamp down the top of the tripple...just the bottom. If ya clamp the topside it crushes the tube just enough to make things way more difficult.

Do you have a set of trees that the fork fits into? If so are they mounted on a frame?
If not slide the fork into the lower tree so about 4 inches sticks out. Tighten the bolts that clamp the tree to the fork.
If the trees are on the frame do the same but slide the fork in so about 4 inches stick above the upper tree. Tighten the clamp bolts.
Now this willl hold the fork tube with out hurting it. Now you can loosen the caps.
If you have the tubes in the trees so the top is even with the upper tree leave the top tree clamp bolts loose. When you tighten the upper tree clamp bolts it clamps the tube to the cap. It wont come loose.
