For 99% of you this may seem like a stupid question but is there any trick to replacing the clutch lever on a 1981? I manage to snap my in half and have order a replacement from Mike's.

If it's not too late, you might want to cancel that order and get a Motion Pro cable. It's been proven here to be a much better cable.

Hey John---If you are replacing the clutch lever/perch, Jim's idea of replacing the cable with a Motion Pro one is good. In the tech section there is a detailed path to adjusting a new cable..........

Thanks for the advise on the cable but I believe my cable and perch are still intact. The lever snapped off near the perch but there does not seem to be any other damage. Maybe I am missing something?

Oops... my bad. I thought I read that title as clutch cable... not lever.

Replacing the lever is a straight forward procedure. However the lever from Mike's may not be compatible with your perch. Sometimes a used stock complete lever/perch is your best bet........

Badly wornout lever/perch pivots are common. I seldom find one that doesn't need to be bushed and a new pivot bolt installed.

XS650 clutches work GREAT but only if every part is up to snuff, lubed. adjusted just right, and the cable routed, ONLY with few, gentle bends, one sharp bend will fark the action.

Thanks Tim. I received my new lever from Mike's and it fit my 81 like a glove.
