crank rebuild

Hi I live in Atlanta ga Just got a 1978 xs 650.The bike is in go shape. But has bottom end noise. Do to being ran with little oil. Here is the trouble. I checked with mikes the bearing will run me 400.00 dollars. Another 200.00 if it needs rods. NOW the real trouble NO ONE IN GA WILL REBUILD A XS 650 CRANK.ALL THE SHOPS I CALLED TELL ME I HAVE TO SEND IT TO FLA. THE SHOP IN FLA SAID 200.00 TO REBUILD IT AND 400.00 TO BALANCES IT. 1200.00 TO HAVE A REBUILT CRANK FOR A XS 650? Am I missing something? I see cranks on e bay. But you cannot tell if it will need to be rebuilt. Help I need a crank that I can drop in and go. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks kb

Based on the cost of a new crank 30-40 years ago, and accounting for inflation, $1200 is actually a pretty good price. Have you seen the crank rebuild thread?
