Crankcase cove right 1978 xs650e - cracks

I’m in the process of restoring a 1978 xs650e, and found this.
Any one seen this before ? No visual damage to the outside, however on the inside there are some signs of cracking. SKULD intrash it and use another cover or is it unlikely to crack all the way. Can’t imagine there is any measurable stress on the cover. I see no other sign of damage around the oil pump, clutch or kick starter.

I think what you're seeing are just normal casting flaws.

I might be tempted to do a little surface grinding, clean with acetone and spread some JB Weld over it. Doesn’t look like anything fatal.

Just looked at some pics of my original '78 cover and it has them too, and in the same spot. In fact, they pretty much match your marks, lol .....

Looks like normal casting flaws to me.

Well guess I’ll pull one of the other ‘78 engines apart and see if that has the same flaw

I expect you'll find it only slightly different.
