Can I just take off this black ring around my front hub? The hub is from a 77 and I am going to take it to get polished up, but would like to know what the black ring is for and if I can just chuck it. Anyone know?
You can pop it off with a screwdriver and put it back after your hub's polished .
It's just there to hide the bolt holes for the brake rotor wich is only there on dual disc applications. You can leave it off if you wish also as it's strictly cosmetic.
It covers up the bolt hole in the hub. The hub is drilled to fit a brake rotor to both sides of the hub. On the unused side the put on the cover.
On my 75 it had a chrome cover held on by three screws. Your cover is just snapped in to the hub.
