Elswick

Oh wow, you've got more room than I thought. That kinda makes me wanna call Robert and tell him to make it zero stretch but then again I don't want the bike so short that it looks like I'm sitting on top of the tire. I really like the stance of your bike Ben so I think I'll stick w what I told Robert, +1" stretch. I plan on putting the footpeg mounts back on the bike Fong style so that should help fill in the gap between the center post and the rear wheel. You see those kinda gaps on 650's alot and I'm trying to avoid that.

What ride height is your bike Benjamoid?

Ya I'm not a fan of the huge gaps either, elswick tails have a lot of adjustability on the axle, I was actually able to fit my stock chain on with the tire all the way forward. My new chain has 4 more links then stock and I still have some room left if it stretches. and I have 4in ride height, with my front lowered 1in.

Dale,
I apologize for not getting your order out sooner. We have it ready to ship now so I'll send an invoice over for shipping charges. As soon as you pay for shipping I'll get it sent out.
Thanks, Robert

Well guess what it is now June 3rd and he still hasn't acknowledged my last two emails.
The only time I get a message from Robert is to ask for an order or to pay money.

I still have no idea where my frame is???????? On his shop floor, did he keep my money and sell it to someone else??? Who The F Knows??

When The POSTMAN RINGS!

The postman arrived toady with two boxes from the USA one for me and one for my little lady which also turns out will be for me. She has bought me some "ride Bells"aka "Gremlin Bells" one for each bike to keep me safe...............How cool is that!

So what is in the big box???? Well it is the Holy Hardtail!

IMG_0485.jpg

To sum things up with how the process went with Elswick Cycles over my hardtail.

The Bike arrived today the 6/7/11, According to the Label it was sent 21/5/11.
So it took 2wks to get here.

However it was supposed to be dispatched as soon as payment for shipping was made which was on the 5/5/11...two weeks earlier.

Also the order is incomplete.............I purchase included a Slug for the backbone when I cut and rake it. It didn't come, another promise by Robert that wasn't delivered.

Contacted Robert and ordered way back in Feb & pad for it as requested, Was told he was going to make it on April 15, Got a request for payment of shipping on May 5th would be sent as soon as I paid which I did same day, and most of it arrived today June 7...............4mths......

In that tme I got 1. Email to ask for order with payment, 2. Email to say he was going to build, 3. Email to say it was made and asking for money to ship................Never once responded to an email I sent fro status updates or confirmation of shipping etc.

The welds look good to me and I am keen to have a play with it. But my priority at the present is to get the lady register in my name so I have a ride while I build the bikes.

Hopefully it is straight and fits well and I can forget about all the headaches and ride the F-Outta the Bitch!!!

Glad it finally got to you! How wide of tire are you running? It looks like that if for a wide tire. Can't wait to see pics of the whole bike!

:wtf:The slug that wasn't sent is the one that goes into the center post then welds to the flat bar on the hardtail? This one?

After you purchased the hardtail you asked if I could send a plug with the hardtail. I said yes I could send it for free but after this I saw you talking trash on forums so I decided to send only what you paid for. Send me a copy of the paid invoice showing that you purchased a plug for the backbone and I will send one out.

As far as the wait goes, it did not take four months for us to build and ship your hardtail out. You contacted me while we were in the process of moving and you were very persistent about placing an order. I explained to you that we were moving and the lead time would be longer than normal.

I hope the hardtail works out for you and I look forward to seeing the finished product but please stop telling lies about me and my company on the internet!
Thanks, Robert - Elswick Cycles

Wow after sending multiple emails to Robert re status of the hardball and a lengthy discussion in the forums with multiple members having the same issues of no response to emails and/or phone calls in their case for the locals. Robert manages to find my blog and make comment?

Robert what about the lack of communication on your part?

As for talking tarsal on the forum all I did was post updates of my attempts to communicate with you, the delays, and my hopes the product would be worth it. You don't seem to remember the praise given to your reputed quality????

Also the is no mention of long delays…I have all the emails to prove it!
No lies mate just the facts……..Is there any insults, name calling nope just dates and Facts!

Above has been cut and pated from my blog!
Roberts comments and I have left them on my blog for all to see as I have nothing to hide here and my response.

Of course I have no invoice re the plug. As robert requested I order through his website which doesn't facilitate this, however it was discussed and agreed to prior to order I believe (can check up on this in my emails) especially since he didn't communicate much after order was placed.

Make your own opinions!

I was about to order a hardtail from Elswick some time in the next few weeks. I don't know if I should now......... I sent an email regarding what I want about a week ago and have not heard back. Does he answer phone calls?

Gravo, There are two guys on here selling Elswick stock tails I don't know if they have sold yet. No wait with those.

I never tried to call him due to time difference and it being an international call.
Other guys have posted that they got a machine and didn't hear back.

Who knows maybe he has got things together now but the whole thing has left a bad impression on me.

I found it interesting that he had the time to track down my blog and He sated he didn't send the slugs cos he read what was said on here, yet he never thought to make contact to put anyone at ease or resolve the problems?????

There seems to be a lot of Aussies looking for hardtails someone local should start producing them again…… The last guy who was doing them moved to the states.

I ordered my tail from elswick right before new years and for it mid February. So he was a few weeks behind, I know there are a few others in the states who got theirs within a month of the promise time. If I remember right I heard something about him moving shops or something during the time Aussie was waiting for his... In my opinion his product is great, and worth the 2 month wait. Not sure if Aussie tail was a fluke or what, but I can't think of anyone else who waited that long.

Also, don't bother calling. Its always the machine, and he never returned my messages. Email was the only way I was able to get hold of him.

Hope it helps hearing someone with a good experience too...

I was hoping for a Elswick tail as I think his look the best. I'm thinking about a 4" stretch and 4" ride height. If you guys know of someone in Aust keen to sell one with similar dimentions please let me know.
I wouldn't have any problems waiting two months for a tail from Elswick but Id need them to commit to a EDD.
Do you guys have an opinion on a 4" ride height? I want the bike to sit low but still be functional.

I don't understand how people like this stay in business? If you're that swamped w/ work then start refusing work, stop accepting peoples' money and start working on your customer service. Sucks that most of the good looking hardtail companies have this same reported issue w/ lack of CS. I understand that anything custom should never have a guaranteed deadline, as things do come up, but geez....this is ridiculous. I wanted to go hardtail but I'm not a fan of TC Bro's bottom rail and everyone else has super long waiting periods.

As said above, I would try to find someone that already has the tail you're looking for, and buy it from a third party.

You certainly wouldn't want to go any lower than 4" and be practical in my opinion. But these things aren't super bikes, how hard do you want to corner on a rigid chop?

I might go with 4.5" as well then. I'd be curious to see some pics of your bike if you have any Benjamoid.

I got an email back from Rob at Elswick this morning, he says 6 week lead tine Plus 2 weeks for shopping. I'd be happy with that if he can pull it off. I defiantly think his tails are the best looking.
