So when I start riding and the bike warms up the engine revs up to 4000 to 5000 rams when in neutral or first with clutch engaged can some one help? It's a 1975 xs650 original 4500 miles on it

Hi Bminer,
did it do this since you've owned it or has it just started acting up?
If it's a new thing is the phenomenon coincidental to something you did to the bike?
My best guess is unbalanced carbs &/or an air leak.
I'd try a complete carb teardown, inspection & thorough cleaning followed by a careful reassembly and then see what happens on startup.

There can be several things. idle speed set too high, stuck advance rod, air leaks as well as other carb issues.
Open the right side round cover on the head. In behind this cover is the advance mechanism. Gently pull the weights open, release them, they should snap shut.
There are links to videos of this around.
If sluggish pull the rod, clean the rod and the hole through the cam and apply new grease.
