Hello,

One of the small felt pads that is supposed to lubricate the ignition points cam does not touch the cam (regardless of the cam position), the other one just barely touches it:

I assume these pads should touch the cam only very lightly, correct?

Should I open the clamp and reposition the pads or get new pads? Should I use (a small amount) of engine oil on these pads?

Thank you!
Armin

The Factory book says to use 30w motor oil, A drop or two on the pads, enough tokeep them damp with oil but not so much as to throw oil around.
On the points grease to put on the rubbing block try your local auto parts stroe. They often have it in small packs on a rack by the check out. If not find the oldest guy behind the counter and ask him. The young guys don't know what points are let alone how the keep them working.

That's the best ones to have hold the plug on the lawn mower!

I've always used a single drop of motor oil, cuz that's what people that never new anything BUT points taught me.

I have a tube of AMF-branded Harley points cam lube - only thing I ever bought from a Harley dealer lol.
