I bought this from a fellow who had it in his garage for ages. Just put it up on the lift to see if it will start and am impressed at how stock it is - even has the tin straps holding the harness to the top frame member. Using my ever handy CTC Powerbox, was able to momentarily jump the solenoid and got a revolution out of it, not that awful grinding noise. PO said he had hooked it up reverse polarity so I will have to see what if anything melted, but with the key on, the tail light and headlight works, but not the horn. Lots of cleaning and checking to do on the harness.
My question is about the exhaust system. Did any model come from the factory with chrome head pipes and black exhaust cans?. There is a cross over between the mufflers, but I have never seen a mix and match like that. VIN is 447-9002xx and manufacture date is 10/77, so it is an early example.
Both the front and rear suspension have stickers on them that I have never seen on any other of my XS's, see picture. The seat is a monstrosity to be changed and the rear signal lights are not original. Brake calipers are both seized, so lots to do. I will get it running first to see if its worth doing much more on. It's high mileage at 425xx km so maybe it has had the top end freshened, head washers are still rubber so maybe not, a compression check will tell me more once I get the wiring to cooperate.
