If you are putting on new brake lines you want to R&R the caliper and MC too. If they haven't been done they are full of guck, see little bill's recent how to thread.
Had the caliper off in the fall. It was actually not too bad. Either the PO maintained/replaced it or it just didn't degrade all that much in the past 28 years. Either way it'll be reused as it is since it is functioning quite well. It retracts and doesn't bind up.
I just rebuilt the MC shortly after I got the bike. That's how I came to the conclusion that my brake capacity is an issue with the current stock line ballooning.
