So I'm crossing the parking lot at a slow pace and the front brake is putting out a metallic rattle sound.:wtf: Lightly touch the brake lever and it goes away, but, the lever has a slight pulse to it. The thing sounds like something is loose and at highway speeds, the brake lever is pulsing very rapidly. Took everything apart and it all looks great, new pads and a rebuilt calliper.

Questions

1. can a warped rotor make the calliper rattle that loud ?

2. can you turn a motorcycle rotor, like a car's rotor, or do you replace the thing ??.

Thanks for your time

John

If you can find a place that will do it. Most won't. It can be turned down to 5 mm with out a problem.
Getting on from an XS1100 with slots will help it brake better.
Well, the XS1100 disc might work. They work on the 77 and later bikes. What year is yours?

was the tire changed recently?rotors can be damaged during tire changes
Or if overtightened or junk on the mounting surfaces.

this would be the definitive test but can be done with less fancy tools.

The XS1100 rotors won't work for you. They have a different offset. You need to find a two piece early style rotor. I'm not sure if other models used the two piece rotors.
If you shop Ebay put XS front brake rotor in the search engine and see what turtns up. Just look close at the pics and ask the seller the diameter and if a two piece .
