Front Brake Viewport Damage (1980 XS 650 Disk Brakes on Mag Wheels)

Hi all,

When I came back from a ride yesterday I noticed that the plastic cap and assembly for the front brake view(examination)port had become dislodged and had fallen down into the main disk brake caliper assembly (Not sure if that is a good description). I am wondering if it is safe to pull this plastic cap out completely and have no cover for this viewport? I am really paranoid that the plastic could cause the front brakes to lock up if it somehow got trapped between the piston and the pad. Is that even possible?

No its not possible for that to lock up the brakes but its ok to pull that sucker and run without it

HELL yes. Many, MANY disc brake set ups do not have that feature and work just fine without it.
