gauge interchangeability

Anyone know if '78 gauges will work on a '80 model? I don't want to waste my time and money trying to install something that won't work.

I put an earlier model 120 MPH Speedo on my '83. not sure what year the speedo was. Had to figure out some wiring was all.

are you using the gauges or the full instrament set up. 78 had 2 models the Standard and Special's.
78 Special have the high beam and neutral lights in the taco, the 80 has the high beam light in the taco and the neutral in the instrament dash.
The whole cluster from the 78 Standards can't be swaped onto the 80 Specials because of the ignition switch

The gauges themselves are interchangable just you will have to rewire some lights

What I had in mind was to just switch out the gauges and not use any of the indicator lights. My main concern was weather the speedometer will read the correct speed and the tach read correctly.

Yes, the speedo and tach will read correct. All models use the same drives.
