    Guys,
I'd like to build an XS650 engine that has a bunch of missing parts but I don't want to use a doner engine that could be rebuilt itself. I'm hoping to get some help here and let you know what parts I need in hopes that you may have it on a shelf somewhere and don't have to take it from a potential rebuild engine. If you catch my drift I think the effort will be worth while. I appreciate your help in advance. I'll be putting a list together soon. Gracer

Hi Grace: there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of either complete engines or parts for XS650s from what I can tell.

I know several people who have...several engines...;)

Shipping's expensive, get up a wanted in your local craigslist or FB buy sell?
Think my shelf has 20 motors....... In Wisconsin... spring trips to the southwest are common.

I find myself in the same dilemma...but now with a donor engine that I do not want to take parts from but want to rebuild too. Oh boy!

I'm making good progress on the engine build. I now have the bottom end all buttoned up. Gears are shifting, able to find neutral, kick start installed and works. Question: on the oil filter (in the side cover) how much should I tighten the plug that holds the spring and ball? I'm thinking make it flush with the tube it threads into?

I got a bunch done on my engine build. I soda blasted the head and rocker box but it still shows some corrosion. I finished porting the head, lapped the valves, installed new valve seals, rocker box seals and rocker arms. I bought a complete head to do this and put those parts in the head I had with matching rocker box. Everything went together nicely! Cylinders are being bored this week.
