Almost done, essentially took it from a junker to this. One thing I should have been more thorough in finding out before I spent the time and money is the legality of a hard tail in New Jersey. Of course everyone I talked to a few months ago said it would be no problem at all, now I'm not so sure the police will be ok with me removing the entire stock suspension. Anyone with one in Jersey find themselves having hassles or tickets over it? Thanks for any info.

nice looking scoot, not sure I like the saddlebag but I do like the brown leather seat...I even like the apes...and I don't like apes so you must have done something well!!!!

What else do you have to do for it? Looks great

Thanks, saddlebag probably won't be there most of the time, just when I need it. The brown leather parts are me thinking about what Clint Eastwood would have on his horse. Geometry of the frame, including the mini apes is inspired by Indian Larry so that's probably why it works, can't go too wrong following his lead. Things been running great, just need to put together some struts for the rear fender, clean up my sloppy wiring and it's pretty much good to go, hopefully done this weekend if the weather holds.

You will be fine,my buddy and me were off riding his bikes *mine is currently tore down* both being hardtails. We got pulled over, was just the cop asking us questions about comfort and checking them out. This was in Washington township, and the cops there are normally rough.

There is NO MOTOR CYCLE INSPECTION IN NJ
If you got a cop that wants to give you a ticket for loud pipes that's all he can get you for. You have no problem bike looks more legal than most I put on the road.

Thanks DaddyG, I know there's no inspection anymore but I'm sure it's not a free for all anything goes situation either. You'd think if there were laws to follow they'd post 'em right on the DMV's site but there's very little info there. Guess I'll be finding out the hard way as usual, just wondering if there's anyone out there riding them and what experiences they've had. Unfortunately, for all the one's I've seen on here I've never seen one riding around my area, in fact, never see any XS's around here at all.

I always forget to take pictures once I start working, I'll try to get more of the few I have up tonight.

Man what an EXCELLENT job! that looks so good!! I'm absolutely in love with that very short, stocky look. The bars, seat, tank, everything flows so well. I'd love to see it with one inch shorter seat springs but I bet the way its set up its perfect once you sit on it.

There are a lot of XS around you. There are three guys in the Williamstown area and two guys near AC and many more over in Philly.
DMV is so screwed up here in NJ when it comes to motorcycles that you just got to LAUGH. I have been waiting for a Title from DMV for almost now two years because you cannot get a lost or no title paper work here in NJ unless your bike is INSPECTED!!!! Every time they send me back the paperwork I just go to DMV just for a good laugh. Been there 7 times and the supervisor at the one here in Rio Grande , Depford and Trenton all say the same thing. You need to have the BIKE INSPECTED at a DMV INSPECTION STATION and when you go there they look at you and say THERE IS NO MOTORCYCLE INSPECTION IN NJ DUH!!!!
So we will still play because they have my $60.00 BUCKS:wtf::banghead:

Sounds like the typical NJ bureaucratic loophole. Make it illegal without making it illegal. I heard (you know how reliable that is) that they are actually repealing titles from hot rods with paperwork history that they don't like. Then it's up to the owner to start from scratch to get a new title.

XS Chop great work! I see your 55 and raise you my 56 Nomad. I'd like to have my bike looking like yours some day.

I am right near Williamstown, and seen a few XS650s around this year.Got talking to one of them answered every question I had and was willing to come over and help me work on my bike.

Thanks guys, might have to point it towards Williamstown come springtime, seems like the spot to see some XS's. I see a couple of mostly stock 70's Hondas and Kawasakis around here but mostly Harleys and late model stuff. Eotnak, the '55 rat is my Dad's, I'm still an apartment dweller so I've been doing the work at his place, he's set up with a welder, air tools etc... Not sure if he gets up your way much but it gets a lot of attention at the cruises around here, until recently he had a '55 Olds there as well.
