head steadies

I've seen a few xs's running without the head steady has anybody on here done this? has it any effect on the top end? engine wear ?

Reading threads where this has been done the common complaint is excessive vibration.
xsjohn liked to poke fun at the ones he noticed.
A rephase is said to cure that?

I don't think it has any effect on engine wear but it will put more stress on the remaining mounts and eventually, they may start breaking. Also, it makes the frame less rigid so handling suffers. I guess on a custom hard tail bobber, those 2 things don't matter much.
